BLUMENHOTEL - Focus On

Countries: AUSTRIA
Type : Hotels
Material: PIETRALAVICA CHOCOLATE, SAMARCANDA

The Blumenhotel is a four-star hotel with 110 rooms in St. Veit an der Glan, the City of Flowers near Klagenfurt, capital of Carinthia in Austria.

As the name suggests, the design concept by Spado Architects & Ogris.Wanek Architects is based on a floral motif which decorates the external architectural structure and is repeated in the interiors.

The interior spaces are floored with Eiffelgres' natural Pietralavica Chocolate, a sophisticated interpretation of the material that inspires them, in the 60x30 size; slabs of Samarcanda porcelain stoneware (natural and bush-hammered), also by Eiffelgres, faithfully reproduce the beauty of natural stone. The double height of the ground floor is underlined by the superimposition of two volumes: one containing the reception area, bar, conference area, restaurants and wellness centre and another containing the hotel rooms.
The service wing to the southeast is characterised by a large open space for the restaurant from which the other parts of the building are visible. The five-storey parallelepiped volume above the service area, characterised by irregularly shaped windows, is occupied by the hotel rooms, all of which face east or west and are accessed via a central corridor.
The irregular arrangement of the windows gives the façade of the Blumenhotel a strong graphic look, and in fact the architects have chosen it for the cover of their book about this and other projects.
